Runners hit the trails in support of McMaster’s NICU

Hundreds of people got dressed up in their Halloween costumes Saturday morning to take part in a run in support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
Runners hit the trails of Hamilton’s waterfront to celebrate Halloween and raise money for a good cause.
The event drew all kinds of participants, from the youngest to eldest community members and even some furry friends who all pulled out their finest costumes for the occasion.
More than $3,000 was raised for the NICU at McMaster Children’s from 500 participants from across the region.
VR Pro’s Race Director Kelly Arnott has been organizing runs for nearly 30 years and holds a very personal connection to this race in particular.

“Our son Ian was born 38 years ago at McMaster, thank goodness. He was 1 pound 8 ounces, 28 weeks gestation. They basically did everything for him for the first 4 months of his life “without NICU at Mac he wouldn’t be here today.”
The NICU at McMaster provides specialized care for infants who have serious health conditions, including for babies who are born premature.
Arnott says the races help spread the word about the NICU’s crucial work, “Until I had my son at 26 weeks, I didn’t know anything about that fantastic unit.”
Everyone who registered received a one-of-a-kind medal, shirt, goodie bag, lunch at the yacht club and timed results.
