The Kansas City Royals have won their first World Series crown since 1985.
Down two runs in the ninth, they fought back in Game 5 against two of the top arms for the pitching-rich New York Mets.
Matt Harvey had carried a shut out bid into the ninth to make it look like they were going to need a game 6… but then the Mets ran out of steam, allowing the Royals to blow it open in the top of the 12th to take the game 7-2.
Edison Volquez started for the Royals, returning Saturday night after attending his father’s funeral in the Dominican Republic.
The Royals won all four World Series games coming from behind.
After taking the first two at home, they won two of three in New York. In a year of improbable comebacks, they won eight post-season games coming from behind.
With last night’s win, the Royals avenged their seven-game loss to San Francisco last year to win only their second World Series in team history.
