Premier Doug Ford says China-U.S. minerals exports ban “wake-up call”
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says China’s decision to ban exports of critical minerals to the U.S. is “another wake-up call.”
The premier posted on X just after noon Tuesday saying that China has cornered the global market on these minerals and that Ontario has the resources to fill in the gaps to help the U.S.

China is banning the export of Gallium, Germanium, Antimony and other key high-tech materials with potential military implications.
The move was in retaliation after the U.S. expanded its list of Chinese companies subject to export controls on computer chip-making equipment, software and high-bandwidth memory chips, further escalating trade tensions between the two countries.
The timing of Ford’s comments follow after the Ontario government launched a multi-million dollar advertisement campaign in the U.S. on Monday, focusing on the importance of Canadian-American economic relationships.
