Man arrested on weapon possession charge after Welland-area street closures
Niagara police have arrested a man on a weapon possession charge after an early morning investigation closed off a Welland neighbourhood.
Police posted on social media at 2:20 a.m. to avoid the area around Highriver Trail and Waterleaf Trail due to an investigation.
The area is a small subdivision with a mix of new-builds and older homes that back onto the Welland River.

According to CHCH’s Simone Gavros who was at the scene early this morning, there was a heavy police presence.
Niagara police reported at 7 a.m. that one person was in custody and that “there is no threat to the public”.
Police have now charged Nathan J. Boult, 24, of Welland with uttering threats and possession of a weapon.
It was reported that officers arrived on scene to find that an adult male had made threats and had barricaded himself in his house with a possible weapon.
The Emergency Task Unit, negotiators, the K9 Unit and detectives contained the residence and the suspect was arrested just before 6:30 a.m. without incident.
The accused is currently awaiting a bail hearing at the St. Catharines courthouse.
