Hamilton police say drug market was targeting the vulnerable
Hamilton police say they have shut down a drug market that targeted not only a specific neighborhood but also vulnerable individuals, some of whom were living on the streets. Police describe it as a complex organization.
Hamilton Police Inspector Jim Callender says it operated like a business, with roles within the organization, such as a runner or a lookout supplemented by the drug trafficker and supplier.
The five-week police operation focused on King and East Ave intersection in Hamilton. Fifty-seven people were arrested, and police seized cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cannabis. Over $12,000 worth of coins were also confiscated, leading police to believe that the end users were panhandling to pay for the drugs. Sean Cowan has more.
