Crash on Highway 3 in Port Colborne leaves man dead, child injured

A 49-year-old Fort Erie man is dead and a child is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 3 in Port Colborne.

On Saturday at around 5 p.m., officers responded to reports of a collision involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a motorcycle.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say initial investigation indicates that the motorcycle collided into the rear of the SUV in the eastbound lanes of Highway 3 near Wilhelm Road, resulting in two occupants of the motorcycle being ejected.

Officers say the driver of the motorcycle, a 49-year-old man from Fort Erie, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a child, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A section of Highway 3 was fully closed for several hours. The roadway has since reopened and the investigation remains ongoing.
