Brantford police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon in downtown Brantford after seeing that the man was in possession of a concealed firearm.

The department says at around 3:30 p.m. officers saw a dispute between two people taking place on Queen Street.

When the patrol officers spoke with the two people, they say they saw a concealed firearm on one of them.

Police had determined the firearm to be a loaded .22-calibre handgun, and placed a man under arrest.

Investigators say the man did not have a valid license to have the handgun.

Detectives say a further search had led to the discovery of a large quantity of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, and a large amount of currency.

They did not specify where the drugs and money were found specifically, or the arrested man’s name.

The 34-year-old man from Brantford was charged with multiple offences, including possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and for possessing fentanyl and cocaine.

The man was held in custody awaiting bail.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
