Ornge boss about to testify

All eyes will be on a Queen’s Park committee hearing tomorrow, when the former head of Ontario’s Ornge air ambulance system will be grilled by MPP’s.

The speaker of the legislature has ordered Dr Chris Mazza to appear before a committee looking into allegations of financial irregularities at Ornge. A criminal investigation is underway, and earlier witnesses in front of the committee have blamed Mazza for the scandal. Today, health minister Deb Matthews accused Mazza of putting his own self-interest ahead of patients, and said anything Mazza says tomorrow can’t undo his past actions.

“I think its important tomorrow to hear what Dr. Mazza has to say but I have to tell you that his actions are going to speak louder than any words he may have for us tomorrow.”

Mazza was hand-picked to run Ornge, and was making $1.4 million a year at the organization before he was fired.
