CHCH producer Randy Rath was honoured at Queen’s Park Tuesday, marking 45 years covering provincial politics and making him the longest-serving current member of the press gallery.

Rath started out as a camera operator and then transitioned to the role of Queen’s Park producer.

“Randy, from all of us here at the Ontario Legislature, congratulations! Thank you for the work you do, your sense of humour and friendship,” said Speaker Donna Skelly, who is also a former longtime CHCH anchor.

Rath has covered nine premiers over the past four and a half decades, including Bill Davis, Frank Miller, David Peterson, Bob Rae, Mike Harris, Ernie Eves, Dalton McGuinty, Kathleen Wynne and current Premier Doug Ford.

“After 45 years, Randy probably knows more about Queen’s Park than most MPPs,” said CHCH news director Greg O’Brien.

“While viewers might know him from his on-air political analysis, what they don’t see is the relentless behind-the-scenes hustle: chasing stories, writing, and editing scripts so CHCH can always deliver the facts. We all salute Randy today, not just for his amazing 45-year run that isn’t over yet, but for his absolute dedication to his craft and to our viewers.”
