Police say one person was injured in a Burlington home invasion that happened shortly after an attempted Oakville break-in early Wednesday morning.

Halton police say they believe both home invasions were conducted by the same group of five males.

Detectives have not said what age they believe the males to be.

Officers say the initial attempted home invasion happened at around 3 a.m. in southeast Oakville.

Authorities say a resident called them after being awoken by a loud banging at their front door.

The five males are accused of using a hammer in an attempt to force their way into the home.

Investigators say the accused fled in a dark sedan before officers arrived at the scene.

A short time later, at around 3:45 a.m., police say the group attended the Roseland neighbourhood of Burlington where they allegedly smashed the glass panel on the front door, reached inside to unlock it and entered the home.

The residents of the home confronted the group.

Police say an altercation occurred when the suspects demanded valuables from the residents. During this incident, one resident was struck in the head with an unknown object.

The resident was treated for their injuries, the extent of which is unknown.

Officers say the accused then fled the scene and no items were taken.

Detectives describe the group of males as all having slim builds, wearing dark clothing, hoods and balaclavas.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have surveillance footage of the area near Royal Windsor Drive and Ford Drive between 2:45 and 3:10 a.m. to contact them.

Additionally, Halton police are looking for surveillance footage from the area of New Street (between Walkers Line and Guelph Line) and Rossmore Boulevard around the hours of 3:30 and 4:10 a.m.
