Halton police are issuing a warning to the public after a camouflaged trail camera was found in a Milton neighbourhood monitoring homes.
On April 16, officers were called to a Milton residence after a homeowner discovered a trail camera and battery pack wrapped in camouflage tape, concealed in shrubs.
According to investigators, the camera was pointed toward neighbouring homes.
Authorities say this is a tactic used by criminals involved in residential break and enters. The cameras are used to conduct surveillance on targeted homes to determine occupancy patterns. This is done to identify opportunities to enter the homes when they’re empty.
Police are asking members of the public to be aware of this tactic, and to routinely check their properties. With seasonal spring cleaning underway, homeowners are being urged to do a check of their property for such devices during the cleaning process.
Homeowners who discover devices such as trail cameras are being advised not to touch them. Rather, contact authorities who will attend and safely collect the device.
With warmer weather around the corner, officers are anticipating a rise in residential break and enters. Due to this, police have provided the following safety tips to protect your properties:
