Niagara police arrest 57-year-old man linked to 2024 sexual assaults

A 57-year-old Niagara Falls man has been arrested after allegedly being involved in sexual assaults that took place in 2024.

Niagara police are investigating allegations of sexual assault which occurred between February and April 2024 at a shelter in Fort Erie.

As a result of the investigation, Fredy Cardona was arrested on Feb. 16 and is facing the following charges:

  • Sexual assault
  • Personating a peace officer (two counts)
  • Intimidation (two counts)

Officers say Cardona has worked in various roles with community agencies supporting newcomers and other vulnerable individuals, including refugees and asylum seekers in the Niagara Region since 2023.

Detectives believe there could be more victims and are asking anyone with information related to this investigation to contact police at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009638.
