Hamilton police are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday night in the city’s west end.

At approximately 8:47 p.m., Hamilton Emergency Services were called to the area of York Boulevard and Old Guelph Road, responding to a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.

Upon arriving on scene, authorities found a 25-year-old man who was transported to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. He later died of his injuries.

Investigators say that before the collision, there was an interaction between two vehicles travelling eastbound on York Boulevard, west of Plains Road West, which resulted in both vehicles pulling over.

An occupant from one of the vehicles exited to speak with the other involved driver. Detectives add that as the second driver attempted to leave the area, the pedestrian was struck.

The driver initially left the scene and contacted police shortly after.

The HPS Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation.

Roads in the area were closed for the investigation but have since reopened.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, have dash cam footage or relevant information is asked to contact police at 905-546-4753.

Those wishing to provide information anonymously can do so through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or on their website.
