Ontario has formally approved changes to Port Colborne’s ward boundaries and city council composition ahead of the upcoming October municipal election.
These changes follow city council’s March decision to reduce size and introduce a new ward structure based on its 2025 boundary review.
The current structure of eight councillors and a mayor will now change to six councillors and a mayor when voters head to the polls.
Port Colborne will be divided into three wards, under the newly approved model, each represented by two councillors.
Two wards will represent Port Colborne’s urban neighbourhoods, while one ward will represent the rural area of the city, reflecting communities of interest while maintaining balanced population representation.
The regulations implemented by the province are now in full force and effect for the 2026–2030 term of council.
