Mother sentenced for attempted murder

A Guelph woman is going to jail for trying to kill her 16-year old son by setting their house on fire.

Janet Philp has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Upset he hadn’t done his chores, and was planning to return to his father’s home she filled a tank with gas, disconnected the smoke alarms and waited until her son had fallen asleep.

She then set a fire in the home but the teen woke up and fled the blaze.

After he escaped, the teen ran back into the house to try to save her.
