Messy morning commute as Environment Canada issues snowfall warning

It’s going to be a slow and messy commute Thursday morning as significant snowfall continues.

The Hamilton, Halton and Niagara regions could see upwards of 20 to 35 centimetres of snow and they’re expected to brace for bitter cold.

Hamilton and Grand Erie public health units have issued a cold weather alert Thursday.

Highway 6 headed onto Highway 403 is experiencing stalled vehicles and slow-moving transport trucks.

Some city plows and contract snow removal services are on the streets.

The City of Burlington has declared a snow event so there is no parking on city roads beginning at noon.

Environment Canada has issued a “yellow” warning for Thursday, warning the public about hazardous weather. There could be heavy and blowing snow leading to reduced visibility.

Police are asking drivers to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt is reminding drivers to brush off your car entirely before you head out, drive slowly and allow for extra travel time.

Hamilton police say there were some minor crashes throughout the morning, including one on Claremont Access.

Toronto Pearson airport has been keeping an eye on the weather since Wednesday, and said they’ll update on social media if the weather conditions affect operations.

The snow is expected to taper off in late Thursday afternoon.
