It’s been 32 years since the Toronto Blue Jays have been in a World Series, and now they’ve earned the chance to do it again.
Friday they will meet the LA Dodgers in Game 1 of the series and fans are very excited.
“So proud of every one of you. Enjoy every single moment of this tonight because you guys earned the f–k out of it. Let’s go,” said Blue Jays Manager John Schneider.
This was Schneider’s message to his team after they punched their ticket to the World Series.
Remember when we were watching airplanes wondering if Shohei Ohtani would touch down in Toronto and sign with the boys in blue?
Now they have a chance to show Ohtani what he’s missing when his Dodgers arrive in Toronto for Game 1 on Friday.
It sure was a historical moment. Two outs, top of the ninth, CHCH’s Danielle de Graauw says she will always remember the moment. 20 seconds before going live outside Rogers Centre, you could feel the energy shift when the Jays clinched with that third out.
Even Prime Minister Mark Carney was moved by the moment.
“It was fantastic. I mean, Springer coming through on one knee. It was absolutely an amazing game. Super pumped for the World Series. As I told the president of the U.S., we’re gonna be coming down there for that,” said Carney.
With the Jays punching their ticket to the World Series Monday night, what does that mean for local baseball here in Hamilton? One organization told CHCH News their registration shot up overnight.
“Our numbers are starting to rise drastically within the city,” said Bryan Bartolozzi, president of the West Mountain Baseball Association.
Bartolozzi says there is a direct correlation to the Jays’ success and to the number of athletes enrolled in his club’s program.
“It translates absolutely huge. Over the years, when they struggled, we struggled number wise in the community. We see an upwards trend when they are doing well, especially now going this far into the playoffs,” said Bartolozzi.
Fans across Canada will be clearing their Friday schedule this week to make sure their support is felt by their beloved Blue Jays.
