Local 9-year-old girl sings national anthem for U.S. Open

We first introduced Milton-native Pranysqa Mishra two years ago when she was singing the national anthem at Hamilton Tiger-Cats games during the pandemic.

More recently, the rising star is fresh off a performance at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships where she wowed the crowd full of celebrities, like Danny Devito.

“It was fantastic because now last month I sang for the U.S. Open. I opened it. It was fantastic and exciting and I loved every moment of it,” Mishra said.

Now 9-years-old, the young vocalist and her family are living in Florida where many of her singing gigs are located.

“My goal is becoming a pop singer and also to touch everybody’s heart with my voice,” Mishra said.

Her dad says she has been getting lots of opportunities and offers in the U.S., so they decided to move there to see how much she can explore those opportunities.

This season she’ll be singing the anthem at Miami Dolphins games– along with the Panthers, Heat, and Marlins– but she has even bigger goals in mind.

“Super bowl and in the white house,” she said.

Despite her powerful voice, Pranysqa says it’s been hard to earn the respect of some people.

“They say I have too big of a voice for someone my size.”
