More than 15 000 people are expected to visit Hamilton over the next 7 days as Juno week kicks off ahead of Sunday’s award show. Businesses and music venues across the city are getting ready for extra customers and the extra dollars they’ll bring along with them.

“We fully expect that they’ll be over a $10 million, likely over $11 million of direct spending in the community.” Says Susan Monarch of tourism Hamilton. This will be the city’s 6th time hosting the Juno awards and Monarch says it will leave the biggest economic impact yet.

While there were some after juno celebrations hosted in Hamilton back in 2001, once the broadcast wrapped, the party really moved back to Toronto, that’s not expected to happen this time around with more hotels, there are more places to stay. Vrancor group which runs the Sheraton, Homewood and Staybridge Suites says the same week last year they were running at 60% capacity this week it’s 100%

Restaurants are expecting a high table turnover, Aberdeen tavern owner Jason Cassis says they started to see an uptake in reservations last week, “we’re getting some fame for sure that are making some reservations where they just want to come out and eat.”

Cassis suggests if you want a table this week to possibly dine among the celebs book now the restaurant, like the city is about to fill up fast.
