Target inflation?

Target Canada has been offering bigger and bigger discounts every week since it started court-ordered liquidation, or has it? Some viewers have contacted CHCH news saying they believe the prices are going up before they’re coming down. In a couple of photos sent to CHCH news by Target shoppers, it looks as if the original price of some items was jacked up before the discount was applied.

“That would be against the law, you can’t be changing what the regular price is.” Marvin Ryder from the Degroote School of Business says it’s unlikely this is actually happening. He says the stores have been chaotic since bankruptcy protection and merchandise is being constantly moved and can easily be mislabled by staff or even other customers.

We visited 3 different Target locations in Hamilton, Burlington and Waterdown, in Waterdown whole sections of the store have been cleared out and there is no new merchandise, other stores are getting some spring stock.

Ryder says the deals may or may not be good, and you have to decide before you buy, because you can’t return anything, “it’s not Target anymore this inventory is being run by someone else you buy it as is and you walk out with it as is.”
