Health Canada recalls tankless hot water heater due to carbon monoxide poisoning hazard

Health Canada has issued a major safety recall for a number of models of Vesta tankless hot water heaters due to a carbon monoxide risk.

Vesta, along with Health Canada and U.S. safety officials, says certain models have cracked exhaust ducts, which could let toxic gas leak into homes, posing a serious risk of poisoning, even death.

All VRS and VRP models, including some other units, are affected. Around 3,500 units were sold in Canada between 2017 and this year.

There have been 43 reports of cracks in North America, but no injuries so far.

Anyone who owns one of the affected models is asked to stop using it immediately and contact Vesta for a free repair by a certified technician.
