The provincial government is giving Hamilton over $15 million to create more hospital beds.

On Tuesday, Premier Doug Ford announced $116.5 million in funding to create up to 766 more beds across the province.

Hamilton Health Sciences will be receiving just over $9 million to create up to 93 total patient beds.

$6.6 million will go to St. Joseph’s Healthcare for up to 64 total patient beds.

“Our government is making the necessary investments to quickly and effectively increase hospital capacity and reduce wait times for patients and families in Hamilton,” said Minister of Heath Christine Elliott.

“This additional investment will ensure our health care system is able to respond to future waves of COVID-19 and help patients waiting for surgeries and other procedures get the care they need, faster.”
