The Hamilton Police Service board has approved the service’s 2025 operating and capital budget which will be higher than this year’s budget.

The total budget is $227 million, an increase of $12.3 million, or around 5.7 per cent from last year.

That is roughly another $35 per homeowner.

Salaries, wages and benefits make up most of the budget.

In a released statement, Hamilton Police Chief Frank Bergen says the budget has been developed to “manage the complexities of a large city.”

“This budget represents what we need, not what we want,” Bergen says. “As a Service, we have been diligent in finding efficiencies and using our reserves to offset the burden on the taxpayer.”

The budget still needs to go before Hamilton City Council for their approval, with a meeting set to happen Jan. 28, 2025.
