Hamilton police investigate two reported shootings within two hours of each other in the city’s east end Tuesday night.
Police say they were called to the area of Battlefield Drive and Robb Avenue in Stoney Creek at around 10:30 p.m.
Officers say the call reported multiple shots fired in the area and following an investigation, they say they found evidence of shell casings in the street.
“We ran upstairs, but not all the way because we’re like, ‘uh oh, don’t want to get shot’,” said Kimberly Sauer, whose vehicle was shot at in Stoney Creek. “We knew it was gunfire – you could tell.”
Sauer said video surveillance shows a person roll up on an electric stand-up scooter, pull out a gun and shoot at her vehicle in front of her house seven times.
“Right through my jeep’s door, they have a plastic cover,” said Sauer. “The doors are off and the roof, so they just shot right through the door into the seat.”

Officers had closed off the area near Battlefield Drive and Robb Avenue to process the scene, where multiple evidence markers could be seen on the ground.
“When we arrived, we located approximately seven casings on the sidewalk,” said Det. Sgt. Michelle Wiley with Hamilton Police Services. “We believe that it was targeted to the vehicle that was parked on the street.”
Hamilton Councillor Matt Francis lives in the neighbourhood and said he heard the multiple shots.
“This hits very close to home,” said Francis. “I’ve got children – there’s a lot of families in this neighbourhood. It’s a beautiful neighbourhood, a great community, somebody could’ve been seriously hurt here.”
Officers have not commented on the video, nor have they shared any information on a possible subject.

Just over an hour later, at 11:53 p.m., another report came of a single shot fired in the area of Kenilworth and Roxborough Avenues, according to police.
Investigators say there is little evidence left at this scene to confirm the report of a second shooting.
These two reported shootings are about 10 minutes from each other however, police do not believe them to be related.
There are no reported injuries in either of these instances, but people remain shaken up.
Authorities continue to investigate these shootings.
This comes as police continue to investigate another shooting on Monday in Dundas which killed a 25-year-old man.
Officers say this would bring the total number of shootings for the year so far up to 25, as they are not yet considering the second report to be confirmed.
Police say they have noticed a decrease in shootings compared to the 38 shootings across the city at the same time last year.
“The Hamilton police take gun violence very seriously and we just want to make sure that people know that even though they didn’t pull the trigger, they are a party to the offence,” said Wiley.
Despite the decrease, officers say there have already been five gun-related deaths this year, including two random bystanders, which is an increase compared to the four last year.
Francis is calling for more to be done at a provincial and federal level.
“This is reckless, this is senseless, it is happening far too often,” said Francis.
“We should not just accept that this is now the norm. The federal and provincial government and their justice system is failing our residents – they need to get off their asses and deal with this,” said Francis.
Police are asking anyone in the area to review video footage and contact the on duty east end Staff Srgt. at 905 546-2963 with any relevant information.
