Hamilton man faces drug, firearm charges in stolen vehicle probe

Hamilton police have arrested and charged a man with drug and firearm-related offences following a stolen vehicle investigation.

On Wednesday, officers responded to the area of John Willson Park in Stoney Creek after receiving a report of a stolen pickup truck.

With the public’s help, investigators obtained a description of the suspect and spotted them driving away in a second vehicle.

Police maintained surveillance on the vehicle until it stopped at a gas station near Arvin Road to refuel and safely arrested the suspect without incident.

Detectives say a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded handgun and about 40 grams of suspected fentanyl. Officers also located additional items related to drug trafficking.

Investigators say 37-year-old Stephen Maisonville of Hamiton has been charged with several charges including possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and theft of a motor vehicle.
