OPP seize about 2M unmarked cigarettes in Ancaster traffic stop

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recovered about two million unmarked cigarettes and charged two suspects in a traffic stop.

On Tuesday at around 5:35 p.m., a member from the Brant County detachment of the OPP conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Wilson Street West in Ancaster.

Investigators say as result, two million unmarked cigarettes were seized and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Officers say the 36-year-old driver Stephen Burrows of Phelpston, Ont., near Simcoe County, has been charged with several offences related to trafficking contraband tobacco and possessing unmarked cigarettes.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Hamilton on September 25.

A 57-year-old individual from Bala, Ont., near Lake Muskoka, has also been charged with using an unauthorized licence plate.
