Hamilton holds contest to name city snow plows

The City of Hamilton is naming ten of their bigger snow clearing vehicles and Wednesday is the last day for residents to submit suggestions.
This is the first time, the city’s public works department has launched a “name the plow” contest.
The idea behind naming the plows is to allow residents to look at Hamilton’s interactive snow-clearing map and be able to identify exactly which plow is coming down the street.
The city says they’re looking for “fun and friendly” names and will choose 20 of the suggested names for the community to vote on.
With each upcoming winter weather event, Hamilton road crews are responsible for clearing approximately 6,518 lane kilometres of roadway and 866 kilometres of sidewalks.
The City has 77 plows, 115 contracted pieces of plowing equipment, and 34 sidewalk plows available to them in order to complete adequate snow clearing.
Hamilton residents are encouraged to visit the Name the Plow webpage and submit their name suggestions.
Voting will start Dec. 20 and the 10 winning names will be revealed in January.
