Halton police have charged a 50-year-old man after the armed robbery of a bank in Burlington Tuesday morning.

Officers say a man entered the Royal Bank of Canada at 2201 Brant Street at around 9:55 a.m., and passed a note to a bank teller demanding cash.

Detectives say the note indicated that the suspect allegedly was in possession of a firearm. The suspect obtained a small amount of cash and left the bank.

Authorities responded just after the call came in around 10 a.m. – finding a black BB gun on his person, taking him into custody and recovering all the stolen cash.

Stephen Laing of Burlington has been charged with offences including robbery with a firearm and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

No one was injured and investigators say they are not looking for any other suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
