It’s already a popular event in the area — the Dundas Legion’s Catch the Ace is seeing an unexpectedly high demand this round like never before.
The progressive lottery is just five weeks in, but already the jackpot is sitting at nearly $250,000.
The draw is happening Wednesday at 8 p.m. and the winner will take home the weekly prize of over $20,000 or, if they “Catch the Ace,” the full pot.
Since they began in August 2023, “Dundas Catch the Ace” has raised over $2.4 million.
This time around, organizers say it’s one of the strongest starts they’ve ever seen, which you can do in-person or online here, you select an envelope with each containing one playing card.
20 per cent of the weekly ticket sales goes towards the weekly prize, 30 per cent goes to the progressive jackpot and the remaining 50 per cent gets donated to local charities like Margaret’s Place Hospice, St. Joseph’s Villa, as well as the legion itself.
“Our first four winners this week are this season,” said Sherri Johnston, with the St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation. “They have taken home over $30,000 each, which is nearly unheard of. To put that into perspective, we didn’t hit those levels until week 28 of the last round and we’re hitting that right out the gate.”
Each week that passes without the ace of spades being revealed, the jackpot grows.
Earlier this year, a lucky winner took home a whopping $1.7 million.
There is still time to snag one of those tickets, as the sale ends at 7:30 p.m. sharp.
