Crime Stoppers of Halton hosted their Jail-a-thon today at Burlington Mall.
People had the chance to participate in the kangaroo court and spend some time as a jailbird. Long-time CHCH director Nick Olchowy was one of the 14 local celebrities who was put behind bars for the event.
The goal was to raise bail money to win their release from the makeshift jail. All the money raised goes to Crime Stoppers of Halton. Chair Jennifer Olchowy says donations are crucial to their organization.
“Halton Crime Stoppers is a not for profit organization, we’re all volunteer based, and today we not only raise some funds because we are not for profit, but we want to raise awareness.”
Jail-a-thons have been used by Crime Stoppers across North America to raise money for day-to-day operations.
