Fort Erie’s Matty Matheson steals the attention at Emmys

It was a big night at the Emmy’s for Fort Erie’s Matty Matheson.

The well-known celebrity chef and restaurateur is an actor and producer on the F.X. show “The Bear,” which won the award for outstanding comedy series.

Matheson gave a much-applauded acceptance speech that included an unexpected moment that went viral.

Just moments into his speech he was interrupted by one of his co-stars on “The Bear” – Ebon Moss-Bachrach – who locked lips with Matheson.

It was yet another award for “The Bear”, one of the big winners at Monday night’s Emmys, taking home six trophies.

But the win isn’t getting as much attention as the moment Moss-Bachrach laid a big kiss on Matheson.

The moment made the cover of the Los Angeles Times today, with the kiss and Matheson’s speech trending online.

Matheson plays Neil Fak, the maintenance man turned front-of-house-staff at the original Beef of Chicagoland restaurant.

Tthe show also just took home best comedy series at the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards.

But Matheson was a success long before “The Bear.”

The internationally renowned chef has hosted several cooking shows on Vice, like “Dead Set on Life.”

Matheson also is the owner of a string of successful restaurants in Toronto as well as Rizzo’s House of Parm in Crystal Beach.

His company’s marketing director told CHCH that staff there are thrilled with the win.

“That huge sense of pride across the board, you know, like feeling that even closer connection to Matty and his family, seeing his family there every weekend,” Michelle Cyr said.

Matheson got his start in restaurants working at Southsides Patio Bar and Grill in Fort Erie, where owners are also feeling pride today.

“It’s amazing, it’s exciting, he’s from Fort Erie, he’s one of us, like it’s amazing to see him do what he did,” Tina Tourountzas said.

Fort Erie’s Mayor Wayne Redekop told CHCH News “I extend Fort Erie’s congratulations to Matty, a great hometown success story!”
