A Hamilton neighbourhood is dealing with what they say is a rash of car thefts in the area and their city councillor says he’s making it one of his top priorities at city hall.

Concerned residents in Flamborough reached out to CHCH News to say that in a span of three nights, six vehicles have been stolen while dozens more have been broken into.

Ryan Koverko Wark says his home camera captured the theft of his 2022 Dodge Ram 1500. It was taken from the driveway of his Carlisle home just before 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

He says it has left him and his wife Kyrsten Feere with an uncomfortable feeling about their close-knit community.

Last month Hamilton police said they had identified an increase in high-end vehicles, specifically pickup trucks, mostly impacting Waterdown and Ancaster and that they have increased patrols in the targeted areas.

Hamilton Ward 15 councillor, Ted McMeekin covers Flamborough, Carlisle and the surrounding area. He says he is well aware of the issue and has made it among his top priorities at city council.

“No one deserves this kind of victimization and trauma and the sooner we can get on top of it the better,” McMeekin said.

Hamilton police wouldn’t get into the specifics of the investigation but would like to remind residents to take proactive measures to prevent what have become very high-tech thefts like getting a signal blocker, making sure you get after-market things such as an alarm system or an armbar that goes right across your steering wheel. These measures will take that to the next level.

Police say these proactive tips are especially important if you drive what they consider high-target vehicles manufactured between 2016 and 2022 including Ford F-150s, Dodge Ram, Toyota Highlander, Forerunner or Tacoma, or Jeep Cherokee, Gladiator and Wrangler.
