An extra challenge came from dealing with a strawbale construction home, meaning the insulation in the walls was made of highly flammable straw. The home is on a country road Wainfleet fire needed back up for water supply.

The shell of the home is still standing, but the interior is destroyed the cause of the fire is not known. Fire officials have said it does not appear to be suspicious in nature. The homeowner believes it may have been caused by an electrical box near the peak of the roof.

The fire marshal will not be called in to investigate as the blaze caused less than $500,000 in damage.
