CRTC pulls Falls radio station’s licence

After 65 years of broadcasting in Niagara Falls, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission is refusing to renew the licence for CJRN radio.

CJRN 710’s licence stipulates that it offer pre-recorded tourist information to Niagara Falls visitors. In its decision the CRTC says the station failed to comply by broadcasting
newscasts, sports updates and promos for other radio stations, and that it didn’t provide logger tape information in a timely manner.

CJRN must stop broadcasting by November 30th. The station first went on the air as CHVC 1600 in 1947.
