Hamilton Centre MPP Robin Lennox was tossed out of the legislature Thursday when she accused Health Minister Sylvia Jones of lying.
Lennox said Sabrina Apitz-Grossman applied to have her out-of-country cancer treatment approved, but the ministry denied it despite its own health agency saying it should be covered because Canadian options were not good.
“It actually surprises me that they are politicizing this issue. We all feel very deeply for families and patients when they are going through these very challenging times. But we have always, and we will always continue to make these decisions based on evidence, based on decisions made by experts, not by politicians,” says Jones.
“Will you finally admit that this minister is lying, she has lied and people have died?” Lennox responds.
Following the statements, Speaker of the House Donna Skelly, asked Lennox to withdraw her statements.
Upon Lennox’s repeated refusal, Skelly asked Lennox to be removed.
Outside the legislature, Lennox reiterated that Jones lied that Apitz-Grossman was not eligible, saying she has the memos to prove otherwise.
