Construction apprenticeship study
The Ontario Construction Secretariat released results from a new study this morning.
It looked at completion rates of construction apprenticeship programs in the province to try to find a solution to Ontario’s skilled construction worker shortage. The study found that programs that use a multi-employee approach are usually the most successful.
OCS CEO Sean Strickland said “It’s one thing to say we want to create more apprenticeship spots and we want to create more opportunity for youth, but the real value added is the complete apprenticeships. Let’s create those opportunities to leverage the amount of money we invest as a government, as a society into program that deliver results.
The OCS is an organization that works with the province to give advice about enhancing the construction industry.
