Safety minister mandates sprinklers in seniors’ & long-term care homes

Ontario has become the first province in Canada to make automatic sprinklers mandatory in seniors’ homes and for people with disabilities.

It’s a change that’s been a long time coming. For more than 20 years Ontario has had a poor record on fire safety for seniors and those considered to be most vulnerable. But these changes to the building code make it mandatory to install sprinklers that are proven to save lives.
