A Canadian isolating in British Columbia who was a passenger on the cruise ship where there was a hantavirus outbreak has received a “presumptive positive” test.

According to Dr. Bonnie Henry, the province’s health officer, says the person with the positive test is from the Yukon and developed “mild symptoms” Thursday, which included a fever and headache.

Henry says samples have been sent to a national microbiology laboratory in Winnipeg for the tests to be confirmed.

The province’s top doctor is affirming that protocols were followed, saying three of the four people isolating in B.C. have been brought to hospitals in Victoria. The fourth person continues to isolate at home.

Those isolating in B.C. are a couple in their 70s from the Yukon, a person in their 70s from Vancouver Island and a person from B.C. in their 50s who resides outside of Canada.

Henry noted that the second Yukoner also underwent testing, which came back negative.

The four MV Hondius passengers flown to Victoria last week were completing a minimum 21-day isolation period on Vancouver Island
