Canada Post workers reject latest contract offer in vote

Unionized Canada Post workers have voted down the latest contract offer.

The Crown corporation says it’s disappointed in the results but is thanking employees for taking the time to vote and the Canada Industrial Relations Board for executing it.

Thirteen per cent wage hikes over four years was part of the offer. It also included adding part-time workers that Canada Post has said are necessary to sustain the postal service.

The board took action following the intervention of federal Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu in the labour dispute.

Canada Post and the union have been locked in a dispute for more than a year and a half.

The postal service says the outcome means ongoing uncertainty will continue to impact its operations, and it is now assessing its next steps.

The union says it remains committed to negotiations and will stay at the table until an agreement is reached.
