Brandon Clark update

We’re learning more about the 25 year old man who opened fire into a Hamilton apartment over the weekend, hitting two men before turning the gun on himself. One of victims is 29-year old Brandon Clark, the son of former Hamilton Councillor and MPP Brad Clark. Brittany Gogo spoke to Brad today about how is son is doing.

Brandon has had 3 surgeries and is in the ICU at Hamilton General Hospital in a medically induced coma, but he is expected to make a full recovery. His father Brad says he has been able to communicate with his family including the terrifying details of the shooting. “He remembers laying there, he remembers seeing what was going on, he says he remembers the man standing over him and he thought he was going to get shot again so he just held his breath and pretended to be dead.”

Brandon was at his friends apartment in east Hamilton on the weekend celebrating a birthday when they heard pounding on the door. 25-year old Fred Pearce was on the other side with a shot gun and opened fire before turning the gun on himself. Brandon was shot in the back as he was trying to run away. “It destroyed his spleen, his one kidney is much smaller than it was, we found out yesterday that it also damaged his pancreas.”

His friend Scott Morin was also shot and is recovering in hospital. 2 other friends jumped off the third storey balcony to escape.

“The police came to my house at 6 in the morning and so we had to go to the General Hospital right away but we didn’t know what was going on yet it was hard,” says Brad Clark

Police say the shooter lived in the apartment building on Queenston rd, a floor below where the shooting happened and he was frustrated by alleged noise issues but he hadn’t filed any complaints with police. In his obituary his mother writes: “Fred was very loved but did not realize how much. Foof, you will forever be my sunshine, my only sunshine.”

Brandon has had 3 surgeries but is expected to make a full recovery, he’s now breathing on his own. “I would say he is out of the woods and there is a path in front of him he can see that path now but he has a lot of injuries to recover from.”
