Body found behind empty Brantford school

Brantford Police tonight are searching for witnesses and information, after a man’s body was found behind an old school on Mary Street this morning.

Officers began a grid search of the area behind the former St Jean de Brebeuf elementary school late this afternoon. The school is surrounded by industrial warehouses, and small recycling and manufacturing operations and so it is quite isolated from the nearest homes in the area, which are about a block away.

There is a pathway leading from a small wooded area, back behind the old school that police have sealed off, but it’s not clear yet whether it too, is a part of the investigation.

One detective on the scene told CHCH News that more information is expected to be released tonight.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Detective Jim Sawkins at 519-756-0113, extension 2273, or they can submit a tip to Brant-Brantford Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
