2 more cases of measles in Haldimand-Norfolk, Jan. 21 exposure date

Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) is investigating two additional confirmed cases of measles in the Haldimand-Norfolk area.

There are currently 12 confirmed cases in the Grand Erie region, which includes Haldimand, Norfolk, Brantford and Brant counties.

The newly confirmed cases are two children that are currently recovering at home. The infection source is unknown at this time.

GEPH is investigating and following up with known contacts who may have been exposed to the measles virus via the children.

The investigation has so far found that people who were at the following location on Jan. 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. may have been exposed to the measles virus:

Walsingham Christian School, 6th Concession Road, Walsingham.

The Brant County Health Unit and Health and Social Services Haldimand Norfolk have webpages dedicated to information on the measles virus.

Today GEPH also announced that Amy Martin, Chair of the Board of Health, would be taking a leave of absence, effective immediately.

“John Bell, Vice-Chair of the Board of Health, will assume the responsibilities of the Chair to ensure seamless governance and leadership,” the public health unit said in a press statement.
