Hamilton Mountain Walmart evacuated due to bear spray incident, teen charged

A young man has been charged with assault after a Walmart on Hamilton Mountain was evacuated Tuesday evening due to bear spray used in a fight.
Hamilton police say two males entered the McDonald’s at the Walmart Supercentre at Upper James Street and made attempts to confront an individual.
The pair hopped the service counter and produced bear spray which they used to assault bystanders and restaurant staff. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.
Police say that the Walmart was temporarily evacuated because of the amount of spray used, which caused poor air quality.
Officers located and arrested one of the youths who discharged the spray and charged him with assault with a weapon, disobeying a court order and disguise with intent.
One suspect has yet to be found. Hamilton police ask anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
Bear spray is a deterrent containing capsaicin, a chemical found in chili peppers. It generally comes in portable spray canisters and is used to repel a bear in the event of a close encounter.
