Morning fire at abandoned church in Welland deemed not suspicious

Fire crews battled a blaze at an abandoned church in Welland early this morning.
The church is located at 50 Lincoln Street. Reports say it is the former Brethen in Christ Church, which had a large fire in 2019.
Welland firefighters arrived at 7 a.m. to find smoke and flames coming from the roof at the front of the building.
The fire was quickly knocked down, and a search of the building confirmed that no one was inside.
The Welland fire department said that there were no injuries to firefighters or members of the public. Crews cleared the scene shortly after 10 a.m.
Residents in the area told a CHCH freelancer they had safety concerns about the remnants of the building.
Niagara police say the cause of the fire is under investigation and has so far determined it to be accidental and not suspicious.
