1 teen in custody, 3 others wanted in Lime Ridge Mall jewelry store smash-and-grab

One teen is in custody and three others are wanted following a smash-and-grab robbery at Peoples Jewellers in Lime Ridge Mall on Tuesday.
A jewelry store worker called Hamilton police around 3 p.m., saying a group of teens were smashing display cases with hammers and stealing jewelry.
Police Inspector Sabrina Feser says a security guard within the store sustained minor injuries after being assaulted during the robbery.
Feser says two of the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle waiting outside the Hamilton Mountain shopping mall.
Police, another mall security guard and some witnesses ran after a third suspect. The teen was arrested across the street.
The force’s K9 unit tracked down a fourth suspect, who dropped some clothing, hammers and a bag of stolen jewelry during the pursuit. While police were unable to arrest him, Feser says they did recover the items left behind.
Investigators believe all four suspects are between the ages of 16 and 20.
Officers will be in the area asking residents for surveillance footage to aid in the investigation.

There have been several brazen jewelry store robberies in southern Ontario over the past few months, including a smash-and-grab less than 24 hours ago at Burlington Centre shopping mall.
Surveillance video of the incident at Arain Jewellers on Monday evening shows several suspects smashing display cases and fleeing the store with bags of stolen jewelry. An employee was pushed during the robbery but Halton police say she did not sustain any injuries.
Hamilton police say the recent hike in smash-and-grab robberies has prompted the force to increase their presence at Lime Ridge Mall and jewelry stores across the city.
“That is why we had such a quick response here,” Feser told reporters outside of Lime Ridge Mall on Tuesday evening.
