Welland man arrested in connection with St. Catharines hit-and-run

Police have arrested a Welland man they say was involved in a hit-and-run in St. Catharines that sent one man to hospital.

On Aug. 20 shortly before noon, a 39-year-old St. Catharines man was struck by a vehicle on Church Street near Clarke Street. The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

The involved vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Authorities initially believed a black Infinity sedan was the vehicle involved in the incident but have since said that information is incorrect.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was a red 2023 Dodge Ram pick-up truck.

On Aug. 26, officers arrested the driver of the truck – 73-year-old William Buitenwerf of Welland.

Buitenwerf has been charged with Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident/Bodily Harm.
