Two people injured in Niagara Falls apartment fire

Fire crews say there were two people injured following a blaze at a Niagara Falls apartment building, causing $50,000 to $75,000 in damage.

Firefighters received the call at 10:06 p.m. on Monday to the two-storey apartment building complex on Buchanan Avenue near Falls and Stanley avenues.

Officers say this is a former motel converted into a multi-unit dwelling.

Crews say the occupant of the room was present at the time of the fire but was removed by firefighters during the initial stages of the search and rescue. The occupant was transported to hospital with burns.

Firefighters say a staff member was treated on scene for smoke inhalation.

Initial reports say the blaze was on the second floor.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
