St. Catharines man faces more charges over allegedly throwing rocks at moving vehicles

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid additional charges against a man after he allegedly threw rocks at moving vehicles in St. Catharines.

Officers say the alleged incident took place on Sept. 18, 2026 near Highway 406 and Glendale Avenue.

On Tuesday, Ammar Al-Zubaidi, 49, of St Catharines was arrested and charged with mischief endangering life and a breach of recognizance.

Al-Zubaidi remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines on Wednesday.

Niagara OPP say between June and August 2025, they received multiple reports of rocks being deliberately thrown at moving vehicles from the side of the road or from overpasses.

Investigators say incidents were reported in the following areas:

  • Highway 406 between Westchester and Fourth avenues, St. Catharines
  • QEW near Mountain Road, Niagara Falls
  • Highway 58 near Pine Street, Thorold

Al-Zubaidi was previously arrested and charged in September 2025 with nine counts of mischief endangering life.
