Man dead after Port Colborne shooting, suspect in custody

Niagara police say one man is dead while another is in custody following a shooting in Port Colborne.

On Thursday at around 6:35 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at a Fares Street address, north of Rodney Street.

Upon arrival, investigators found a man suffering with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died due to his injuries.

Detectives say a 30-year-old Port Colborne man was arrested at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the interaction between the victim and the suspect are still under investigation. However, detectives believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
