Port Dover barricaded person incident leads to 24 charges

An individual is facing 24 charges following an investigation into a barricaded person incident in Port Dover.

On Saturday at around 3:45 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police responded to a Main Street address in Norfolk County after receiving a report of a barricaded individual.

Investigators say two people got into an altercation inside a home and one assaulted the other, causing minor injuries.

OPP say the same individual allegedly pointed a firearm at a second person.

Shortly before 9 p.m., officers safely took the individual into custody.

During the investigation, they learned of several previous incidents involving the same individuals, including assaults, property damage and the use of a firearm, that happened over an extended period of time.

Police have charged a 45-year-old resident of Norfolk County with several assault-related offences.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a later date.
